Birth Doula

noun: doula; plural noun: doulas

- origin Greek

'a woman who gives support, help, and

advice to another woman during pregnancy and during and after the birth.'

Every woman deserves a positive birth experience, be it at home, hospital or a midwife led unit. Vaginally or cesarean, everything or anything but as planned. What matters is that it is your choice, this is your birthing experience, your body and your baby. Being informed, you can make the right choices for you and your baby on the day.

I offer individual support for you and your family troughout your pregnancy and birth. I’ll be there for you, to support you, help you find the information you need, be your advocate, hold the space, what ever you need me to be during your pregnancy, on the day and once your baby is born.

It is very important that each woman finds 'the right doula' for her. If you are not sure about having a doula or you are not sure if I would be 'the right' doula for you, the best way to find out is to have a chat, this can be on the phone, skype or meeting for a cuppa.

So please don't hesitate to contact me to find out if I might be the right doula for you.

After our initial chat You (and your partner) will take some time to reflect before making your decision.

As your Birth Doula we will meet at least twice before the birth to get to know each other better, to get comfortable with each other for the big day and to talk about...

  • Your birth plans and preferences
  • Birth preparations
  • Any questions you might have
  • Any doubts, worries and fears that might be bothering you
  • And find out how I can best support you (and your partner) during pregnancy and birth - everyone's needs are different and they may also change on the day, that is why getting to know each other before is so important

'What else is in the Package?'

  • During our contract I will provide you support by phone and email when you need me or perhaps you would like me there with you on your antenatal appointments
  • I will be on call 24/7 28 days (2 weeks prior and after your estimated due date), so you know that I will be there for you on the day when you go to labour
  • I will be there for you during labour and birth or maybe you will want me to take care of the older children or walk the dog
  • After birth I will stay until the first feed or when I know you are fine and comfortable for me to leave you in the 'baby moon' or you might tell me that you are happy for me to leave

  • Postnatally I will come once to see you. Every mother deserves support and nurturing especially during this period. We can talk about how you feel about the birth, breatfeeding or anything that supports your recovery during this period. I will be there for you!

I also have range of books relating to pregnancy you are welcome to borrow for free as part of my package.

"While doulas are not there to change outcomes there is growing evidence that having a birth or postnatal doula brings a number of tangible benefits. From reducing intervention rates, shortening labour and improving the condition of babies at birth. While this research is important, it’s the less tangible benefits of having a non-judgemental companion during a life-altering event that most woman remember and value." -Doula UK-

There is evidence to show that having a doula can mean:
